転生輪廻 ~ monochrome-coat

Reitaisai overall was a flop for me; I expected a lot of great things from it, but actually the majority of them was just a big fail –at least of the circles I was awaiting for. Fortunately, it wasn’t the case of “es”.

I enjoyed most of that album, probably because it’s a solo Merami, even if it isn’t something “epic”. Except maybe for this song.

Probably I wasn’t able to recognize at the beginning how good it is –this might be due to the fact I’ve listened to “Syndrome” right before “es”, and believe me, that made me just see everything worst than how it actually was. And actually, I can say this about almost the whole CD.

“転生輪廻” is I’d say an acoustic song, and it’s incredible good; very calm and relaxing, but at the same time full of sorrow. I’d never expected such a song for a character like her. Among all the Mima’s themes  I’ve listened to until now, this is surely one of the best vocal one, and at the meantime, one of saddest.

As (almost) usual, Merami did a great job; and this time, not only on the vocals. She wrote even the lyrics, and what beautiful lyrics. It’s the first time I see Mima pictured in this way. I believe it’s the first time for me to read something about her where she’s so frail.

Somehow I think I’m talking about Merami too much lately, actually each time I get the chance to do it. Well, non that I really mind it; she is and I believe she will always be my favorite singer.

In the end, “es” is a mix of different styles, a lot of styles. It varies from electronic to rock, from trace to pop; overall it is a nice album, with a lot of various genres, pretty good arrangements and (obviously) full of Merami. If you still haven’t listened to it, give it a chance, you won’t regret.

Notes

転生輪廻 | tenshourinnen” means “Circle of transmigration”. Title which recalls so well the original theme, “Reincarnation” –“転生” means exactly “Reincarnation”. Anyway, rather than translated the title with the “normal” meaning, I’d use the meaning of “転生” and “輪廻” separated (“輪廻” means “Endless cycle of death and rebirth”), and translate it as an “hybrid”, “Endless cycle of reincarnation”.

廻る廻る世界で | In a world that goes on, goes on”; a more plain translation would be “In a world that keeps going on”. But I bet you already know how much I want to keep my translations as closest as possible to their original meaning. And this time, I wanted to keep the redundancy of this phrase. Anyway, the “廻る” part really recalls something which goes in a circle, thus how the Earth moves, thus its meaning figurative, yet so literal, that assumes.
穏やかな日が続きますように | As well as the peaceful sun still does it”; even though this stanza has to be read reversed (in English), I’ve translated it following the Japanese structure. This phrase sounds almost like if this small light is strictly connected to the sun, kind of like the relationship between mother-child. “This small light is shining, like the sun that keeps doing it every day”, where “like” in the Japanese phrase has more a “resembling” meaning.

転生輪廻

目指した場所 いつか届け
ひとり歩く 迷い悩んで
まだ見ぬ明日は輝いて
ずっと見てたあなた追いかけて

mezashita basho itsuka todoke
hitori aruku mayou nayande
mada minu asu wa kagayaite
zutto miteta anata oikakete

One day I will reach the place I aimed at
I walk alone, worried to lose my way
And still, I don’t see a bright tomorrow
Always, I’ve seen you running away

生まれ変わって また繰り返して
月に祈りを込めた 廻る廻る世界で

umarekawatte mata kurikaeshite
tsuki ni inori wo kometa mawaru mawaru sekai de

I’m born again, and it still repeats
I offer my prayer to the moon, in a world that goes on, goes on

見上げた空 眩しい過ぎて
遥か遠く 希望の彼方へ

miageta sora mabushii sugite
haruka tooku kibou no kanata e

I looked up at the sky, dazzling, passing by
Far way, so distant, beyond a wish

生まれ変わって また繰り返して
月に祈りを込めた 廻る廻る世界で

umarekawatte mata kurikaeshite
tsuki  ni inori wo kometa mawaru mawaru sekai de

I’m born again, and it still repeats
I offer my prayer to the moon, in a world that goes on, goes on

穏やかな日が続きますように
輝いてるこの小さな光

odayaka na hi ga tsudzukimasu youni
kagayaiteru kono chiisana hikari

As well as the peaceful sun still does it,
This small light is shining

悠久の地へ 僕らが還る場所
星になれたらいいな 深い深い幻想
ah

yuukyuu no chi e bokura ga kaeru basho
hoshi ni naretara iina fukai fukai gensou
ah

Toward an eternal land, we will go back
If we can become stars, it’d be great; in deep, deep, illusions
Ah

生まれ変わって また繰り返して
月に祈りを込めた 廻る廻る世界で
ah

umarekawatte mata kurikaeshite
tsuki ni inori wo kometa mawaru mawaru sekai de
ah

I’m born again, and it still repeats
I offer my prayer to the moon, in a world that goes on, goes on
Ah

生まれ変わって ここへ還ってきたよ

umarekawatte koko e kaette kita yo

I was born again, and came back here
