Pizuya’s Cell

“For your sake”

“Against the flown of time”

“For my sake”

When I first listened to this album, I thought I was dreaming.

Barrage Am Ring’s booklet with lyrics. 5150 which sings a Touhou arrangement in Japanese. Setsuna (Black Night Funeral / kokuyasou) back on Touhou after too much time, on vocal. Kissing the Mirror and LA KIA together again. Vaguedge back to Dancer In Haunted Dark Alley times. And over everything, Pizuya’s Cell with Merami, Merciless Lazuli Rose’s style.

My Reitaisai 9 is now complete, and it ended with an excellent album. Barrage Am Ring 2 arrange / side is, so far, the Barrage Am Ring I’ve enjoyed most. It might be just because the rest of Reitaisai was for the most a delusion to me, but this CD is truly amazing.

I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end, without exceptions. It’s not a secret that I don’t like that much death metal circles, I really like just a few of them, but inside this album each single track is amazing, and I’ve loved even those metalcore/death metal songs I usually don’t enjoy that much. To be honest, the track I liked less was warinside’s one, and it’s instrumental; probably because this time he made an arrangement too close to the original one –but still, this doesn’t mean it’s a bad one; on the contrary, is really good.

And the song I’ve liked most couldn’t be anyone beside “摂氏零℃がワタシの体温”; Merami and Pizuya together again for this Reitaisai, and not with a track Excelsior’s style –I’m sorry to everyone who likes Excelsior, or Rising Star, but those two are albums I can’t stand, especially after a gem like Merciless Lazuli Rose.

Moreover, finally, after three CDs, Barrage Am Ring putted lyrics in the booklet. Which means, I can finally translate something from this “circle” –I wanted to translate a song from Barrage Am Ring 1/B side too (yeah, Merami’s one), but, no lyrics in the booklet…

Maybe I should’ve talked about the song, or about the album in-depth, but I believe I’ll overvalue this album, I’m just too excited right now (this CD made my day, and not only). So for now, the only thing I want to say is: listen to it, you can’t lose such a great album.

Notes

摂氏零℃がワタシの体温 | sesshi zero °C ga watashi no taion”; zero °C is my body’s temperature. This is the title’s translation. In Japanese, it might sound a little redundant at the beginning, since “摂氏零” already means “zero Celsius”, and the °C might even be out of the place. Anyway, I love how the title itself since the beginning marks out how the lyrics will be.
As I’m sure you all know, Mokou’s body’s temperature is just too far for being even near 0°C (and I highly doubt Kaguya’s would be so low), plus she manipulates fire; thus the opposition between the title and the character(s). And by extension, this opposition can be found in the lyrics; half of the song is centered on Kaguya, the other half on Mokou, and the impression I had while reading the Japanese lyrics was to being in front of a mirror where words are reflected, speculated, where the past becomes present, the “I” becomes “you”, the “reality” becomes a “dream”, but while keeping the same structure. Exactly like in front of a mirror. I really love the work behind this song, is just awesome. I hope I’ve kept it even in the English translation, even if it wasn’t easy, had to “adjust” a lot of things and I’m still not too sure about the result.

紅色に染められたガラス玉 | Dyed with crimson, that glass sphere”; I cannot stop thinking that “glass sphere” is used as a metaphor for “future”. Of course, this is just a guess, but I can’t think about anything else beside a future filled with blood and hatred when it comes time to Kaguya and Mokou. Thus how I’ve read it as “A future dyed with blood”.
| Am I glad for you?”; this phrase actually means “Am I glad like you?” –the same goes for the next question. Anyway, like I said before, I wanted to try to keep the Japanese structure between the stanzas, and kept the same pattern.
押し流されながら無意味なワタシなんか | Has been all washed away, and people like the meaningless me”; probably in another context I’d have used another term. But here, really, the word’s “meaningless”. And considering both Kaguya and Mokou are immortal beings, and the fact they’re outside the normal conception of time, they’re “meaningless”, they’re both probably already bored of the world, of people, of everything, and live “without a meaning”. Thus my choice of keeping that term.
君の手で覆い隠す | In your hands, it’s covered”; the “correct” translation is “Your hands cover the darkness I can’t erase”, the verb here’s active, and not passive. But since the nature itself of this verb in English, and the fact I wanted to preserve the structure’s phrase (one of the last stanzas uses it very well) I had to modify it.

dareka no you ni yorokobu? dareka no you ni kanashimu?
dareka no sei de kuroshimu? dareka no sei de kizutsuku?

For who’s sake do you suffer? For who’s sake are you  wounded?
Who’s the one you’re glad for? Who’s the one you’re sad for?
In who’s name do you suffer? In who’s name are you wounded?
Who’s the one you hold dear? It’s for your sake

The time that doesn’t change,
I clanged to it, where nothing can be destroyed
Am I alive? In a world that doesn’t change
The future is facing another way, and these feelings
I can’t stop them

toki nonagare ni sakarai kisenai yami
kimi no te de uchikogasareta

Your voice doesn’t arrive
The tied fate, the faced end of sins
Against the flown of time, the darkness I can’t erase
In your hands, it was burned
Dyed in crimson, that glass sphere

Do I suffer for your sake? Am I wounded for your sake?
Am I glad for you? Am I sad for you?
Do I suffer in your name? Am I wounded in your name?
Are you the one I hold dear? It’s for my sake
