Hope ac ~ MISERICORDIA

Somehow I want to translate the whole “MISERICORDIA”, even if half has been already done –like this song. But this album is amazing, and somehow I want to give my translation of everything, especially Dely. Anyway.

Hope ac, where I believe ac stand for acoustic, is just beautiful. I somehow prefer this version rather than the “normal” Hope (and it’s not a secret how much I love metal/rock songs), but for this song, it’s like the acoustic version fits better the lyrics. Or maybe is just Hanatan’s voice that’s just amazing.

Even if she already covered this song in an acoustic version, somehow I prefer this one. It might just be due to the slightly differences between her first cover and the one in this album, and the fact I somehow find Hanatan’s voice being more emotional here.

Lyrics are as always beautiful; Yuyoyuppe’s style is unique, both in music and lyrics, and I love his fascinating writing style.  Sometimes, I really wish he will work more with Hanatan in a future; MISERICORDIA is simple a masterpiece, and another album with them together would be fantastic.

Though Hope ac and Hope are technically the same song, I’ve decided to leave “Hope ac” as title, simple because I’m translating this song while listening to that one. Anyway, if you’re interesting, here’s the original version with Miku, subbed with another translation –click here.

Notes

君が未だ 笑ってる | The smile of yours”; here I’ve basically “rewritten” the whole stanza to make it more fluent in English without changing the phrases positions. The overall meaning of this passage is “I’ve kept in my heart (the memory of) you (while) smiling”. Anyway, in Japanese there’s really written “(While) you were smiling / (you) were full of kindness; / I’ve kept in my heart / that important smile”. Though, I wasn’t able to find a way to “fix” this redundancy presents into the translation; in Japanese, there’s really not that effect, but I wasn’t able to find a way to avoid it in English. Sorry-
消えてく 生きてる | I’m vanishing, yet I am alive”; while not being the literal translation (there’s no “yet” in Japanese, and all the verbs are basically progressive forms, except for one), I wanted to try to preserve the chiasm Yuyoyuppe putted here –a chiasm that might not be a chiasm, depending on what do you want to consider; as for me, the chiasm’s both in the verbs (they ends in -ku / -ku and –ru / -ru) and meaning (to disappear/to die and to be alive/to be born) , but someone might see this in a different way. I hope I was able to keep it without have ruined too much the phrase.

Hope ac

僕 何処 白 黒
君に会いたくて
また涙流すだけなんだろう
心の奥底 閉ざした思い出
届かない声が響きあってく

boku doko shiro kuro
kimi ni aitaikute
mata namida nagasu dake nandarou
kokoro no okusoku tozashita omoide
todokanai koe ga hibiki atteku

Where am I? It’s all white, it’s all black
I want to meet you
But still, tears keep falling down
In the depths of my heart, the memories I locked,
The voice I can’t reach, keep resound

ずっと続く幸せだと
思っていた私は
アナタという光消えて
長い夜が来るの・・・

zutto tsudzuku shiawase da to
omotteita watashi wa
anata toiu hikari kiete
nagai yoru ga kuru no…

“Our happiness will last forever”
Is what I thought
You said the light will disappear
Once the long night comes…

君が未だ 笑ってる
優しさに 満ち溢れた
胸の中 閉じ込めた
大切な あの笑顔を

kimi ga mada waratteru
yasashisa ni michiafureta
mune no naka tojikometa
daisetsu na ano egao wo

The smile of yours
Was full of kindness
I’ve kept in my heart
That important smile

消えてく 生きてる
生まれる 死んでく
私が 見つけた
アナタの ヒカリは
もう此処には無い

kieteku ikiteru
umareru shindeku
watashi ga mitsuketa
anata no hikari wa
mou koko ni wa nai

I’m vanishing, yet I am alive
I am born, yet I’m dying
And now I’ve realized
That your light
Isn’t here anymore

君が未だ 笑ってる
優しさに 満ち溢れた
胸の中 閉じ込めた
大切な あの笑顔を・・・

kimi ga mada waratteru
yasashisa ni michiafureta
mune no naka tojikometa
daisetsu na ano egao wo…

The smile of yours
Was full of kindness
I’ve kept in my heart
That important smile…
