救世Άργυρóϛ ~ 妖精帝國

So, this is the ending of “Tokyo ESP” (東京ESP), anime I will not watch because I’m planning to keep reading the manga. I’ve read the first volume some time ago and for sure it was pretty enjoyable. The analogies with “Ga-Rei” are pretty much evident when you’re reading it, but I guess it’s something inevitable since it’s the same author. Aside this, the setting and plot are completely different and, while being nothing special and for sure not innovative (there are so many manga that talks about ESP), “Tokyo ESP” is very enjoyable and has a flying penguin. I think I’m blathering again.

I’m not sure how to feel about this song. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love it –if it wasn’t, this translation wouldn’t even exist- but I’m a little afraid about how my translations will be welcomed. Maybe I shouldn’t give it too many thoughts, but I guess it can’t be helped. A little off topic: I love YUI’s white outfit. If I can call it “white outfit”. And that heterochromia. Probably I’ve never said this, but I’ve always been fascinated by heterochromia, I don’t know why but I simply find it beautiful. But I shouldn’t talk about those stuffs here.

I’ve never translated anime songs (unless one labels the Madoka arrangements as “anime songs”) even though I often listen to them, so this is pretty much a “first time”. Even though I know this song because it’s by Yousei Teikoku and not because it’s the ending of “Tokyo ESP”. Speaking about ending themes, they’re way too often overlooked –of course I’m speaking basing everything out of my own experience, so I may be completely wrong. Anyway. I hope you’ll enjoy this translation.

Notes

I probably should put the usual note that, thanks to the lack of some particles and sometimes to the phrase construction, there can be multiple interpretations –and consequentially, translations- over those lyrics. I also feel I’ve forgot some notes.

救世Άργυρóϛ”, in romaji “kyuusei argyros” or “guze/kuze argyros”, can be translated as either “Argyros’ salvation” or “Silver salvation”, depending on if you want to translate “Άργυρóϛ” or not. “Άργυρóϛ”, the Greek word for “silver”, doesn’t necessary refer to the color –if you google it, you’ll see a bunch of possible references. Thus why I’ve left both the translations, even if “Silver salvation” is probably the most correct judging by the lyrics.

荒ぶる魂 | When the”; I’m assuming it’s “口づけを受けて”, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to give a sense to the phrase.
安寧破られて| Peace”; literally, “Peace was torn and extraordinariness was made”.
言葉を | And I scream”; literally, “To fire/release words”. Personally, I’ve usually seen this verb as “言い放つ”, which means “to speak/to declare”, but well, for the translation I’ve preferred using a “strong” word even if the actual verb isn’t “to scream”.
拳砕けても | My fists”; assuming the construction is “拳が砕けても魂が幾度も限りを毀れぬ” and it’s not connected to the next phrase. Also, the next phrase sounds something like “Challenging this broken body (made) it spread and bloom (with) rose-colored”. I personally love Yui’s lyrics, I think they’re beautiful, but they are for most a pain to translate in English so I apologize if the translation sounds too… odd. Also, about the following two phrases, the meaning is like “My broken/torn body is bleeding and blooming rose-colored”, where the rose-colored –for me- it’s “blood”.
裏切りも | Betrayal”; literally, “(These) lips are charming and swallowed down even betrayal and corruption” but the phrase construction doesn’t really tell you “I’ve swallowed down betrayal and corruption” and leaves opened the possibility of “being devoured by betrayal and corruption”.
奮うつもりか | Will you”; literally, “Do you plan to rise up/wake up/muster your courage?”. This phrase has so many meanings, but overall it simply means “Will you grab your courage and go on?”.
風に散らさぬように | Won’t scatter”; literally, “Looks like they won’t scatter within the wind”.
鳥より鋭く | Rather than”; it’s hard to explain you why I decided to translate in this way. Literally, and following this construction, the phrase sounds like “This world has been arranged rather than birds quickly flapping (their wings)”, which makes relatively no sense. So I’ve figured out the phrase would have been “This world has been arranged more for me rather than the birds”. I’m not too sure about this construction either, so I will probably revise it in a future.

救世Άργυρóϛ

荒ぶる魂は祝福の口づけを
安寧破られて創られた非日常
狼狽えたその胸の
奈落へと幻が擦り抜ける

arabura tamashii wa shukufuku no kuchidzuke wo
annei yaburarete tsukurareta hinichijou
urotaeta sono mune no
naraku e to maboroshi ga surinukeru

When the savage soul received a blessing kiss
Peace was torn and anomalies began
Flustered, that heart
Where deep inside illusions slip through

≪己の欲に≫
其の瞳は穢れているか
≪高鳴る胸の≫
其の意志は真に正義か
言葉を放て

≪onore no yoku ni≫
sono hitomi wa kegareteiru ka
≪takanaru mune no≫
sono ishi wa shinni seigi ka
kotoba wo hanate

«In my own greed»
Have those eyes been violated?
«My throbbing heart»
Is that will truly right?
And I scream

拳砕けても魂が(魂が)
毀れぬ限り幾度も
挑んでは破れ身体は(身体は)
薔薇色に滲んで咲く

kobushi kudakete mo tamashii ga (tamashii ga)
kowarenu kagiri ikudomo
idonde wa yabure karada wa (karada wa)
barairo ni nijinde saku

My fists are already broken and this soul (this soul)
Will never surpass its limits
I push this broken body (broken body)
As it blooms rose-colored

朱き命よ銀に染まれ

akaki inochi yo gin ni somare

A scarlet life dyed in silver

心を重ねても絶望は突然で
頭に棲み着いて離れない雑音
裏切りも背徳も
飲み込んだ唇は艶めいて

kokoro wo kasanete mo zetsubou wa totsuzen de
atama ni sumitsuite hanarenai zatsuon
uragiri mo haitoku mo
nomikonda kuchibiru wa tsuyameite

Many hearts already piled up when despair suddenly
Reaches my head. The noises don’t fade
Betrayal and corruption
Swallowed down these charming lips

≪月を映した≫
其の身体は満ちているか
≪静かな痛み≫
其の拳は誰の為
奮うつもりか

≪tsuki wo utsushita≫
sono karada wa michiteiru ka
≪shizuka na itami≫
sono kobushi wa dare no tame
furuu tsumori ka

«The moon reflected»
Is that body finally complete?
«A peaceful pain»
For whose sake is that fist?
Will you rise up?

咲き急ぐ華に寄り添う(寄り添う)
風に散らさぬように
鳥より鋭く羽撃け(羽撃け)
仕組まれたこの世界の

sakiisogu hana ni yorisou (yorisou)
kaze ni chirasanu youni
tori yori surudoku habatake (habatake)
shikumareta kono sekai no

As if the short lived flowers I’m next to (next to)
Will not scatter in the wind
Rather than for a bird flapping its wings (its wings)
This world has been shaped for me

空を薙いだら銀に染まれ

sora wo naidara gin ni somare

The sky scythed down, dyed in silver

≪己の欲に≫
其の瞳は穢れているか
≪高鳴る胸の≫
其の意志は真に正義か
言葉を放て

≪onore no yoku ni≫
sono hitomi wa kegareteiru ka
≪takanaru mune no≫
sono ishi wa shinni seigi ka
kotoba wo hanate

«In my own greed»

«My throbbing heart»
Is that will truly right?
And I scream

拳砕けても魂が(魂が)

koborenu kagiri ikudomo

The sky scythed down, dyed in silver

荒ぶる月は夜に
溶かされ幻に墜ちた

araburu tsuki wa yoru ni
tokasare maboroshi ni ochita

The savage moon in the night
Sunk within dissolved illusions

  1. Thank you very much for translating this. I have been replaying this in my ipod for weeks. The PV is awesome too. Very grateful that someone so skilled and generous took the time to translate this beautiful work of art. May you be blessed by the fairies.

    • I know this is an incredibly late replay and I deeply apologize for this. I was not too sure about what to say, your comment and the other two you left made me very… no, incredibly happy -and made me feel flattered as well. It is honestly the first time someone defines my English writing as “touching” -some people mocked me because the writing I sent over was blatantly “written by a stranger” and “weird”- so it completely floored me.

I have already said this, but I can not be helped. Reading your comments really made me so glad; as for translations, spending hours over deciding whether using a term rather than another one, or working days over thinking about a good way to put a certain phrase and knowing there are people appreaciating what I do is the best reward to me.

Though there will not be many Yousei Teikoku’s songs translated here, not in the short-run at least, you can have a seat and discover -or maybe not?- Denkare, which is, in short, a relatively obscure band where YUI has been singing under the name ‘Karen’.

Last, but not least, good luck with your project -can I call it “project”?- to becoming a blogger!

Whenever you feel like talking about music -YUI?-, or something else, feel free to send me an e-mail, or write a comment here, or contact me anywhere; I will ensure to answer you as soon as possible.

This said, I believe I have written too much.
      Have a nice day!

      • Hello. :> I’m glad I made your day. If it weren’t for you actually I wouldn’t have discovered Denkare and they’re pretty good. :D I’ve seen your reply two months ago already but idk what to say lol. I just admire your blog so much. Thank you for your encouragement. :> Sure we’ll keep in touch…you seem like a very nice friend. ^///^
Have a nice day as well and more power to your blog and future endeavors! :>

      • Glad you like them! Whenever you feel like dropping a message, don’t be afraid about doing it! I may not answer immediately, but whether it’s a comment here or a mention on Twitter, I’ll answer as soon as possible.
        Thank you for your encouragement!
